Interview with the Cast of “Winter’s Bone”

MakingOf: You touched on filming on location in the Ozarks. I’d love to hear more about that and what that experience was like.

(Jennifer Lawrence): Intense…very intense. I mean if anything’s going to get you into character its that. Because, you know, before I had read the script and prepared as much as you think you can, and then when you get there it just brings in a whole other league to everything. There was no set, there were houses and woods and everything is real. You can’t not be in character; you cant pretend when you’re in situations and places like that.

(Tate Taylor): For me, I grew up in Mississippi, and I grew up fishing in the white river in Arkansas and Missouri, fishing and camping there. So, it wasn’t a shock to me but know that area before I came to film, you just new what your job was. It actually felt like going home.

(JL): To us, its so depressing and you imagine those people living like that, but the characters are funny and they’re sarcastic and they’re having a blast. They’re happy with they’re lives…

(TT): And what Ree goes through…Its such a struggle. Most of the film is such a struggle for what she has to encounter in her day-to-day life. It doesn’t matter if you’re poor trash in Appalachia or the Ozark mountains. What he character ends up doing is she comes through he other side. Especially with what’s going on with the world today and economy, I think it can be inspirational to show that no matter how bad it is, you can break through and try to make a difference
