“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” Interview: Filmmakers Favorite Scenes

MakingOf:What was your favorite scene to shoot, and then seeing it on screen?

David Slade (Director):My favorite to shoot and then see on screen… God. Um, actually I think one of my favorite scenes is the garage scene between Jacob and Bella. I think it’s a lovely measured performance scene. There’s a great sense of danger in that scene, and I thought the performances were wonderful. You know, its nothing to do with big effects, or vampires or anything, it’s a purely dramatic moment and I think that it’s a really true moment, and I felt like we nailed that one.

Wyck Godfrey (Producer): Edward’s proposal in his bedroom to Bella, where she’s gone in with an idea: I’m going to have sex as a human before I get turned into a vampire. And he has different things in mind. It was at the end of our shoot,  there was a little bit of fatigue setting in, and Rob [Pattinson] for one, was just not looking forward dot this scene. He was like: I’m just going to come across as sappy, there’s now way I can say this, I mean yes maybe it makes sense in the early 1900sm but it doesn’t make sense now. And it was really just about him going in and being honest to Kirsten [Stewart] in the scene. And I think that there’s an awkwardness that he has in the scene that is really endearing, which I think came from how uncomfortable it was for him, as it is for any man, to propose when he doesn’t know whether she’s going to say ‘yes’ or not.

Melissa Rosenberg (Screenwriter): I have several, but I have to say that one of my favorite scenes is a very small scene in which Bella tells her father she’s a virgin. It is just a small character moment, but both of them do it so well. You know, Billy Burke is just one of the…that man can deliver a line. He is just this very dry sense of humor, and the two of them together are incredible awkward. Its very funny and sweet, so I have to say its probably one of my favorites.
